Firefox 3 released tomorrow
Image via Wikipedia
since Firefox 3’s ‘download day’ is tomorrow, and there are over 1 million pledges to download it on spreadfirefox so I thought today would be a good day to go over my favorites of the new features.
The Awesomebar
The ‘awesomebar’ is the new, well-featured address bar. In firefox 3 it will not only have the ability to give you your URL history, but it can search through tags (I will describe these next), your URL history (i.e. http://ospsp.com/), your bookmarks, page titles. It will display them based on frecency, which is a fusion of frequency and how recently you visited the site.
Tags
To improve the searching of bookmarks, mozilla has added the ability for you to add tags to bookmarks. This is a popular feature on web bookmarking sites, and being able to search for them in bookmarks that you have in firefox will make web browsing faster. These tags will be searchable in the awesomebar, as stated above.
Speed
Mozilla says that things like Gmail and zoho office will run twice as fast as in firefox 2, and that it will be able to compile pages in only 60ms. at that speed you could compile over 15 pages in one second, now thats fast! In addition to page speed, Mozilla has improved some other things as well, including how fast firefox itself will run, and have made it so that it will take up less RAM memory on your computer.
Operating System integration
If you use custom icons on your computer firefox will automatically find them and use them for things like the bookmark folders icon, forward and backward buttons, and the home button.
